New SLEX and STAR toll rates started in January 2026. Discover the updated prices and why motorists are raising concerns online
The 2026 brought more than just New Year celebrations for South-bound motorists. Effective January 1, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) officially implemented a new set of toll rates for the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the STAR Tollway. This marks the end of a years-long petition process dating back to 2018.
Under this new matrix, a ₱10.00 increase for Class 1 vehicles (private cars and SUVs) traveling the high-traffic Alabang to Calamba stretch. They will now pay ₱126.00. As for the shorter segment from Calamba to Sto. Tomas, a modest ₱3.00 bump. They will now pay ₱34.00. And for the larger vehicles, Class 3 trucks. A sharper pinch of additional ₱39.00 in fees on the end-to-end Alabang-Sto. Tomas route.
The TRB maintains that these adjustments. This is the first major update in over a decade. Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) reiterates that these are vital for the “continued operations, maintenance, and improvement” of the expressway. While SMC SLEX Inc. has softened the blow by splitting the implementation into two tranches, the second half of the increase will be scheduled for July 2026.
However, the reaction from the motoring public on social media has been largely skeptical. Common concerns on the TRB’s official pages were highlighted. A perceived gap between the rising costs and road quality and service rendered tops the list of grievances.
As the second tranche looms in six months, travelers are being urged to reload their RFIDs early and budget for the “new normal” of Southern travel.
