Toyota Shifts Gears in the Philippines: Unveiling ATIV Hybrid and bZ4X Electric to Drive Sustainable Mobility Forward
Toyota Motor Philippines is accelerating its shift to electric vehicles, launching the ATIV Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and the bZ4X Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), making eco-friendly options more accessible. This move supports the country’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030. TMP’s multi-pathway strategy offers flexibility, catering to diverse Filipino needs and infrastructure readiness. The ATIV HEV starts at ₱1.19 million, with fuel efficiency of up to 31.3 km/L. TMP aims to expand its electrified lineup, aligning with Toyota Motor Asia’s target of 30% xEV sales in Southeast Asia by 2030.

Toyota to boost Philippine electrification momentum, supports climate transition with multi-pathway strategy
OFFICIAL RELEASE: Toyota Motor Philippines | PUBLISHER: ADVAI
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) advances its multi-pathway strategy toward carbon neutrality with the rollout of two new electrified vehicle (xEV) Toyota models—the ATIV Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), the most affordable xEV model in Toyota’s local line-up to date, and the announcement of first Toyota Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) made available in the Philippines, the bZ4X.

The expansion of full electric line-up from Lexus to Toyota vehicle models signals TMP’s continued push to broaden electrification options in line with the company’s ‘Beyond Zero’ sustainability vision. Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy – built on the principle that a mix of powertrain technologies rather than one can address the diverse mobility needs of Filipinos – aims to deliver solutions suited to the country’s road conditions, infrastructure readiness, and customer usage patterns.
TMP’s local approach align with Toyota Motor Asia’s regional targets announced in October 2025 at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, where the regional headquarters detailed its target of achieving 30% xEV share of new vehicle sales in Southeast Asia by 2030 (“30 by 30”), and introduce ten (10) new xEV models in the region in the next three years.
This broader strategy also reflects the growing need to address the environmental impact of the country’s transport sector. As the sector remains a major contributor to greenhouse gases, wider adoption of electrified vehicles is seen as an important step toward reducing overall emissions and managing the pressures associated with growing mobility demand.
“Toyota Motor Philippines fully supports the Philippine government’s carbon reduction goals, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030,” said Masando Hashimoto, President of TMP.
“Today, Philippine customers can choose from four vehicle types—gasoline, diesel, hybrid electric, and battery electric—to be their mobility partner, according to their lifestyle and location.”

Expanding Electrification in the Philippines
HEV technology remains the most viable and accessible electrified option for the Philippine mass mobility landscape. Their self-charging capability, fuel efficiency, and reliability make them effective for conditions where charging infrastructure is limited.
The ATIV, as the most affordable model in TMP’s current electrified lineup is expected to widen access to hybrid mobility, reinforcing Toyota’s position as the brand with the broadest range of HEV models in the country. Its top-of-the-line HEV variant, with starting price of PHP 1.19 million, can reach up to 31.3 kilometers per liter of fuel mileage (based on Fuel Consumption Test Protocol under UN Regulations No. 101).
As for customers who are ready with capacity to access charging infrastructure, TMP is introducing BEV into its multi-pathway strategy. BEVs such as the bZ4X, offer zero tailpipe emissions, and quiet, efficient operation in areas with available charging facilities. The model’s arrival in December 2025 marks Toyota brand’s entry into the full-electric segment in the Philippines.
While BEV models – such as the RZ and UX – have been existing in the Lexus brand line-up, TMP supports both Toyota and Lexus customers with charging stations installed at select dealerships across Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, and plans to expand to other key areas nationwide.

Rising xEV Adoption
Local adoption of electrified vehicles (xEV) continues to gain traction as the market is projected to reach 50,000 xEV sales by the end of 2025, more than double of the 2024 level, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).
The DOE also reports year-to-date sales of 41,000 units through September 2025, representing a 356% increase in new xEV registrations compared to the same period last year.
As of end-November 2025, TMP has sold a combined 16,986 xEV sales of Toyota and Lexus models, showing a 45% year-on-year growth versus TMP’s 2024 xEV sales.
With the ATIV HEV lowering the barrier to xEV ownership and the bZ4X joining the market along Lexus BEV models, TMP is strengthening its multi-pathway strategy to support the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
